Mobile Suit Gundam Gquuuuux It is the latest animated series in the venerable mecha franchise, marking the return of Universal Century to the timeline. However, Gquuuuux has a unique premise and it’s confusing to know what Gundam series new fans need to see first. Luckily there are easy ways to keep up with what you need to know within a few hours.
Which Gundam series should I watch before Gquuuuux?
The Gundam franchise gained many new fans when Mercury Witch aired. However, unlike this series, which is its own self-contained story, Gquuuuux is part of the Labyrinthine Universal Century timeline. If you want to experience everything about Universal Century Story, you will need to work on anime, manga, OVAs, light novels, art books and more for about 45 years. However, you only need a small portion of it to get references in Gquuuuux.
Gquuuuux is set to an alternative version of the Universal Century Timeline. Fortunately, for newcomers, history diverges during the events that made up the first episode of the original Mobile Suit Gundam. In this alternative history, Aznable steals the RX-78-2 Gundam before Amuro Ray gets on board. His army then captures the white base, and Charge wins a year-long war using it and Gundam. However, he disappears in the final battle. Gquuuuux will pick up five years after Zeon’s victory.
If I could catch the play of Gundam Gquuuuuux in Mobile Suit: The Beginning, I got a (very) quick down of a year of war. However, if not, you’ll at least want to watch the original Mobile Suit Gundam series. It provides the necessary context to understand some of the references made throughout Gquuuuux.
Fortunately, if you’re not in the mood to watch the 43-episode series, there are three mobile suit Gundam compilation movies you can catch instead.
- Mobile Suit Gundam i
- Mobile Suit Gundam II: Soldier of Sorrow
- Mobile Suit Gundam III: Meet in Space
These films provide a summary version of the war of the year. This gives you a great foundation to dive into the next chronological entry of Gquuuuux or the original Universal Century Timeline, the 08th MS Team.
