German filmmaker Werner Herzog receives a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievements at 82nd Venice Film Festival (August 27th to September 6th).
The director screened several films at festivals, including 2009. Bad Li: New Orleans’ Call Port.
Award-winning Herzog said: “I have always tried to be a good soldier in films, and this feels like a medal in my work.
“But I’m not resigning. I work as usual. A few weeks ago I just finished a documentary about Africa. Ghost Elephantand at this moment I’m filming the next feature film, Backing Fastardin Ireland. I am developing animated films based on my novels, The world of Twilightand I will be voiced by the creatures in Bong Jun Ho’s upcoming animated film. I’m not finished yet.
Throughout his career, Herzog has written, produced and directed over 70 films. Fitzcalard, Agwar, God’s Wrath and Grizzly Man. In 2009, he was nominated for Best Documentary by Oscar Meet at the end of the world He was awarded a lifetime achievement at the European Film Awards in 2019.
Venice director Alberto Barbera said, “Herzog’s career is attractive and dangerous as it involves full commitment and places itself towards the point of physical risk that catastrophe is constantly lurking.”
