The Academy will introduce the Stunt Design Oscar at its 100th ceremony in 2028, responding to new categories of increasingly voice calls.
The film, released in 2027, will be the first wave to consider. The Academy will announce the category rules for eligibility and voting in 2027, with its full 100th Academy Awards rules. Details regarding the presentation of the award will be determined by the future academy committee and executive leadership.
Currently, over 100 stunt experts are members of the Academy’s Production and Technology department. David Letcci, the former stuntman who directed the film Man in autumn and Deadpool 2led the initiative on behalf of the stunt community and gave several presentations to the academy, along with stunt coordinator and designer Chris O’Hara and others.
“Stunt design has been an integral part of filmmaking since the beginning of the film,” said Bill Kramer, CEO of the academy and Janet Yang, president of the academy. “We are proud to celebrate these technical and creative artists’ innovative work and we celebrate their commitment and dedication to reach this important opportunity.”
The latest category is the cast’s achievements that will be held in this year’s release, and will be announced for the first time at the 98th Academy Awards on March 15th, 2026, with Conan O’Brien again.
