Shrinking Season 3 Cast Adds Jeff Daniels in a Major Role

Jeff Daniels plays Jason Segel’s father in season 3 reduction

According to deadlines, Jeff Daniels has joined the cast of Shrink for Season 3. He portrays Jimmy’s father, played by Jason Segel. The streaming service confirmed the series’ update in October 2024. The producers describe Daniels’ role as a guest starring arc, but have not revealed any details regarding his character’s storyline.

Jason Seegel, Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein co-created the reduction. The show begins to ignore ethical boundaries, begin to convey his thoughts directly to his clients, following Jimmy, a therapist of sadness that leads to major consequences in his life. The main cast includes Harrison Ford, Jessica Williams, Christa Miller, Luke Tenney, Michael Urry, Lukita Maxwell and Ted McGinley. Brett Goldstein also played a recurring role in Season 2.

Reduced Season 2 premiered in October 2024 and ended in December. It ended with Jimmy being in charge of his wife’s death and allowing a drunk driver who works to repair his relationship with his daughter Alice. Segel previously said in an interview that Jimmy’s Ark focused on making up for his father’s past mistakes. Both Segel and Williams were nominated for Emmy Awards for their performance in season 1 of the show.

Jeff Daniels is a two-time Emmy winner, Newsroom (2013) and Godless (2018). His television credits include American Rust, The Comey Rule, The Looming Tower and Netflix’s A Man in Full. He has also worked on films such as The Squid and the Whale, The Purple Rose of Cairo, Pleasantville, Good Night and Good Luck, and Dumb and Dumber.
