pitch: In the 1932 Mississippi countryside, twin brothers Stack and Smoke (Michael B. Jordan) returned to their hometown with plenty of alcohol and money. Their goal: to set up a juke joint where saints and sinners can eat, drink and dance at night as well. Unfortunately, for others who are gathering to achieve stacks, smoke and club juke, Sammy (Miles Katton)’s extraordinary musical ability to play young guitars has attracted some supernatural attention. The opening night of the club may have vampire issues.
from Nosfer today: Because he broke out with the praised one Fruitsvale StationRyan Coogler’s movie earns over $2.3 Billion Dollars at the global box office – but his fifth film, sinnerthis is the first time he has written and directed a completely original story (compared to one based on an existing story, cartoon, or best photographer). And it’s a lot (sometimes scary) fun as the boy, Coogler, takes on the classic vampire ratios, focusing on boundaries and spirituality and traditions for centuries.
As long as people make movies, people make movies about vampires. So it is worth noting that Coogler found a fresh angle here with the spen. There’s a bit of “same but different” when it comes to creature designs (particularly the creepy red eyes have an effect), but maintains many classic rules (garlic, wooden stakes, they have to be invited). What Coogler adds is group consciousness, incredible musical talent, and, yeah, an explanation that vampires might smoke, but they may not be the worst creatures wandering around the earth.

verdict: and sinnerCoogler tells a story that makes him feel totally original, confirming that he has a true talent to explore and reinvent genres. Just like real people, there are some points where characters make stupid decisions, but in terms of execution, the film is a very roller coaster and a ride worth riding.
