Robert Downey Jr.’s performance as Dr. Doom Inn Avengers: The End According to one of the film’s directors, it’s not what MCU fans saw before.
Last summer, it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Downey Jr. was returning to the Avengers Marvel Studios. However, he does not play Tony Stark/Iron Man. The character died in Avengers: Endgame and now portrays the villain Victor von Dom/Doctor Doom.
It plots details of Avengers: Doomsday (Doomsday, also known as Russo Brothers), directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, but at this point it remains primarily a rap. The film follows Avengers: Secret Wars, which will be released in 2027.
What did Anthony Russo say about Dr. Doom of Robert Downey Jr. of the Avengers: The End?
Speaking to the Times, Anthony said he can’t explain how he’ll come out as Doctor Doom in the Avengers after playing Marvel’s Iron Man at the moment, “Because it’s part of the story.”
However, he added, “There’s no one in the world where he can play this character in the way he brings him closer.”
As for Dr. Doom, there were a handful of others who previously portrayed the characters in live action. Joseph Culp unleashed the Fantastic Four films from 1994, when Roger Corman produced executives, playing him on a low budget, while Julian McMahon portrayed him in the 2005 Fantastic Four and the 2007 sequel, Fantastic Four the Silver Surfer. Toby Kebbell starred as Doctor Doom in the 2015 Fantastic Four film.
Avengers: Doomsday will be released in the US on May 1, 2026 as part of Phase 6 of the MCU. Avengers: Secret Wars continues on May 7, 2027. Released between these two films is Spider-Man 4, which will arrive on July 31, 2026.
