Warner Bros. may be trying to sell the whole thing now Rooney Tunes brand.
Earlier this week it was announced that Warner Bros Discovery could ultimately sell Coyote vs. ACME distribution rights to Ketchup Entertainment. The move comes after Warner Bros. decided to shelve the completed film with $30 million tax amortization rather than making it available to the public.
The Coyote vs. Acme deal is not yet confirmed at this time, but the film will be releasing a 2026 theatrical release if it happens.
What are the latest updates for Warner Bros. and Rooney Tunes?
According to Jeff Sneider’s The Insneider, Warner Bros. may be trying to remove Rooney’s songs entirely.
Sneider said: “It is said that WB decided to sell Coyote vs. Acme to ketchup because the studio is trying to sell Rooney’s songs entirely, rather than taking a tax credit a month before tax day (April 15th).
At this time, there are no official comments from Warner Bros. about the issue. However, it is worth noting that the original Rooney Tunes Animated Shorts, which ran from 1930 to 1969, were recently removed from Max. Deadline reported that the show “is no longer considered a priority” as “streamers prioritize programming for adults and family.”
Other spinoff shows, such as the 2020s Rooney Tunes manga, are still available for viewing on streaming platforms at this time.
In addition to Coyote vs. Acme, Warner Bros. sold the day the Earth exploded. After the internal restructuring in 2022, the Rooney Tunes film exploded into ketchup entertainment. The film was released in US theatres on March 14th, 2025. It has received positive reviews from critics in general, but so far it has grossed only $6 million in box offices around the world.
