After the live action trailer for CW PowerPuff Girls The series has been leaked recently, and fans of the iconic animated series share their thoughts on the discarded project. The show was in development for three years before CW finally decided to cancel in May 2023.
The cancelled PowerPuff Girls were created by Heather Regnier (Izombie) and Diablo Cody (Jennifer’s Body) and executives were created. The story would have centered around the honorable trio as a sense of disillusionment that resented that the whole childhood was fighting crime and that the world was struggling to reunite when it needed them more than ever. The cast included Chloe Bennett as Blossom, Dove Cameron as Bubbles, Jana Perla as Buttercup, Donald Feson, Professor Drake Utonium, Nicholas Podany as JoJo and Robin Liver as Sarah Belm.
How did PowerPuff Girls fans react to the live action trailer?
The leaked trailer for the PowerPuff Girls Series received mixed reactions from fans online. Some criticised the network and creative teams as they were considering adapting their beloved shows to live action without staying true to their source material.
The PowerPuff girls were worth more than this. Why do they laugh like this? https://t.co/jddkxv21m0 pic.twitter.com/yxixzrjphn

For the first time in my life, the trailer for a cancel show really silenced me.
This PowerPuff Girls live action has even been 1% successful so far due to the incredible seconds. https://t.co/j8mnneekt8 pic.twitter.com/rwimterkrr– Melo (@melothehm) March 6, 2025
This is very awful. Thank God for confirming that this is going to die. And it may be dead forever. And everyone who thinks “A great idea!” won’t continue working.
And I heard “hurr durr” about “the white in the cartoon washed our hurr” and was far more aggressive than reading about it. https://t.co/hclma3ftbs pic.twitter.com/aixti31og1– elvick (@elvick) March 6, 2025
How do you turn an iconic cartoon villain like Mojo Jojo into two white guys and splitting the name? ! ?
Who in CW thought this was a great idea was that they knew that the PowerPuff script was a butt, but not this ass? pic.twitter.com/i14b0xp59m– LG13 (@lorenzogrech13) March 6, 2025
Meanwhile, some fans felt that the premise of the show could be possible if it was handled only by the right creative team. Several fans also expressed disappointment at the show’s cancellation, revealing that they would have seen it because of how stupid the show is.
I’m glad they pulled the plug into this. The premise of “adult powerpuff girl disillusioned with her superhero childhood” may have been a really good idea, not in itself a bad concept — but this is full of gods. https://t.co/8ied4wz8g9

Okay, call me crazy, but this is just as bad as it looks I think they should release it. I don’t like when countless artists’ hard work goes down the drain.

The only healthy part of this whole trailer. Imagine a show for kids with Powerpuff girls fighting crime and more, dope ASF. They had a great opportunity to do great things.
It could have been like a shark boy & lava girl, or a spy kid. OMG https://t.co/ps6w42bkzb pic.twitter.com/wqqx71wgv7– Statacy? ‘s mikeyhanmagojo (@historia) March 6, 2025
The original animated series was created by Craig McCracken and debuted in 1998, and will end up creating the prestigious trio of flowers, bubbles and buttercups from the combination of sugar, spices and all the lovely and mystical chemistry x, in an attempt to create the perfect girl.
