Forever immortal Stanley, co-creator of so many classic Marvel comic characters, passed away in 2018 at the age of 95. Stanley: Final Chapter. And the story he intends to tell is bleak.
According to the official Kickstarter, the documentary is “a roller coaster of drama and overlap.” It explores Lee “landed in the middle of a wild scandal just like a superhero story.”
“The event was documented by filmmaker John Borejack, who became Stan’s assistant and his inner circle fixture. John got unprecedented access and filmed everything he saw. What he revealed was a thriving market where Stan’s signatures and memorabilia, transformed into a huge mountain of cash and rival hacksters that double cross each other to control Stan’s property. After gathering this footage for years, he is ready to share this shocking and truly heartbreaking story with the world.”
As Hollywood Reporter Revealed in 2018, Lee spent the final years of his life fighting against multiple forces trying to control his property. In the trailer below, Bolejack explained that he wanted “justice” to Lee, adding that the abuse Lee suffered “is not speculation, it’s all on camera.”
The Kickstarter campaign will have 30 days of raising $300,000. At the time of writing, it currently reaches around $13,000. Check out the trailer below, where you can share comic book creators like Dustin Nguyen and Mark Waid and their reactions to the footage they’ve seen.
