In November 2013, Marvel and Netflix signed a deal to create several television shows based on Marvel Comics characters. This included Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Punisher and Defender.

Looking back at that era of Netflix, Sarandos described the collaboration via variety as “the biggest deal in television history.”
He said, “I’m not touching five original TVs without a pilot.
“In our show, we are independent at Disney.
Streaming platforms want to work with people who are aligned for you.
All Netflix Marvel shows were cancelled by early 2019, primarily because Disney, the parent company of Marvel, launched its own streaming platform, Disney+. The show was removed all from Netflix in 2022 as Disney regained its license and placed it on Disney+ instead.
