The singer and actress celebrated her 41st birthday by showing off her incredible physique in a maroon bikini and sharing a sparkling mirror selfie with her Instagram followers. Along the stunning snap, McPhee reflects on his journey to self-love, saying, “As I get older, I love myself, love my body, love life! My 20-year-old self had no thought.”

McPhee, who shares her 4-year-old son, Rennie, with her husband, David Foster, 75, said that her 40-year-old child spent the sun bathed by the pool. The “American Idol” alumni combined with her maroon bikini and patternless bandana to exude ease of style and confidence. This is not the first time McPhee has accepted her body after her motherhood. This year, she shared a heartwarming video of herself enjoying a dip in the ocean with Rennie.

Overcoming the struggle for body image

McPhee’s path to physical self-confidence was not easy. After welcoming Renee in 2021, she was opened up about her struggle with body image and her fear of recurring into a disturbed diet. Speaking about the informational pregnancy podcast from Dr. Berlin, McPhee admitted to being shocked by how quickly the old horrors returned during her pregnancy.
“It was really shocking, upsetting and worrying to me to feel like I had a recurrence after pregnancy,” she revealed. “I suddenly became obsessed with food from the late first pregnancy.

McPhee won 40 pounds while pregnant and ultimately sought help from a psychiatrist. The psychiatrist reassured her that recurrence is common among people with a history of eating disorders. After seeking guidance, McPhee began to feel peaceful late in her pregnancy, and then she developed a healthier relationship with her body.

Find peace and strength after pregnancy

By October 2021, eight months after giving birth, Mcphee revealed that she felt “peace” with her body. “I had this, wow, like this huge appreciation for what my body just did, I want to give you a little more blessing during pregnancy,” she told E! news.
McPhee’s journey to embrace her post-babe body was an inspiration for many. She swapped previous struggles with a more balanced approach to fitness, focusing on strength and endurance.
“I love my body when it’s in the best shape I can do. It feels good to be strong,” she told Self Magazine.
Embracing fitness and new perspectives

McPhee found joy in her fitness routine that kept her strong physically and mentally. She balances her busy life with intense cardio sessions and rigorous five-hour dance rehearsals.
“I feel it on my thighs and calves, but it’s really stopping. I miss the real workout. I’ll do an hour-long Kick A-Aerobic program with trainer Oscar Smith,” she said previously.
Beyond fitness, McPhee has gained a new perspective on her career and celebrity status since her days as “American Idol.”
