Apple TV+ released its first look chief The warStarring Jason Momoa, this epic of upcoming war following the battle for Hawaiian unification.
In the new photo, Momoa and several other actors stand near the fire. Momoa’s character can be seen holding a weapon in his hand, but others are looking at him. In the series, Momoa plays the warrior Kaiana, a real-life figure known for his fighting efforts in the 1790s, as various parts of Hawaii collided for control.

Who is the war chief?
War chiefs follow the narrative of Hawaii’s unity and subsequent colonization from the perspective of indigenous citizens. The series features mostly Polynesian cast, with the exception of Momoa, Lucian Buchanan, Temuera Morrison, Thea-o-Hanepehinga, Cliff Curtis, Kaina McAh, Moses, Siua Ikare, Brandon Finn, James Udom, Maine Kinimaka and Te Kwe Tuhaka.
“In the beautiful backdrop of the island of Hawaii, a nine-episode series based on true events, it follows the warrior Kaiana, portrayed by Mmore, who attempts to unify the island before western colonization in the late 18th century,” reads the show’s official overview.
The war chief will premiere on Apple TV+ on August 1, 2025, with the first two episodes of the show being released. Following this, new episodes premiere every Friday until September 19, 2025.
