Invincible’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan Describes Voicing Conquest as ‘Physically Hard’

As for the reason for conquering Jeffrey Dean Morgan, it was “hard” in the invincible season 3.

Morgan reflects on his portrayal of invincible conquest in a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, revealing it to be physically challenging. “I don’t know what it’s like to be in the (recorded) booth and trying to destroy the world,” he said. “But that’s really physically difficult.”

Series creator Robert Kirkman told the same outlet he had Morgan in mind for conquest “probably since the beginning of the show’s existence.” Kirkland continued. “Conquest requires a lot of nuance. Despite this huge, powerful, wild thing, he has an incredible amount of character there. And I knew Jeffrey could bring it.”

Conquest makes his invincible debut towards the tail end of Season 3 Episode 7, entitled “What Did You Do?” After Mark’s battle with invincibility from other universes and Angstroms, he faces an aging Bilturmite. This is conquest and attacks Mark for failing to gain control of the Earth. Just before the credits start rolling, Mark and Conquest rush towards each other for an inevitable battle.

Focusing on the meta aspect of the casting, Morgan humorously said, “I was excited to be part of it and give Stephen a chance to redeem.”

He also explained the difference in approach to these characters after talking about the similarities between Negan and conquest. “I was only trying to recognize the inflections of the voice,” he said. “After many years, it’s very easy to get into Negan mode.”
