Harry Potter HBO Show Finds Its Minerva McGonagall Actress

According to a new report from Deadline, actress nominated for Emmy Janet McTor Negotiations are underway to play the role of Professor Minerva McGonagall. McTeer is a highly decorated actress on screen and onstage, appearing in projects such as TumbleWeeds and Albert Nobbs (both received Oscar nominations for the best and best supporting actresses, respectively).

In the Harry Potter world, Minerva McGonagall is one of the central characters at the heart of the story. A professor of magic and magic at Hogwarts, she is head of Gryffindor House and is the vice principal under Dumbledore.

Assuming McTeer closes the deal, she joins a steadily growing cast. It was recently reported that John Lithgow was cast as Albus Dumbledore in the series. Paapa Essiedu was previously reported to have been cast as Professor Severus Snape, but the deadline has been confirmed in a report on McTeer.

The HBO adaptation is written by Emmy Award-winning producer Francesca Gardiner (Killing Eve, Inheritance).
