Giancarlo Esposito I hope he can re-enact his Star Wars role as Moff Gideon for future projects.
Esposito played Moff Gideon in Disney+’s The Mandalorian, which premiered in 2019 and ran for three seasons. His character may have died during the finale of Mandalorian Season 3, but it is still unclear whether that moment will truly mark the end of Moff Gideon.
What did Giancarlo Esposito say about potentially improving his Star Wars role?
Speaking to Empire Magazine, Esposito said he was happy to recreate the role of Star Wars for the upcoming Lucasfilm project. But he “can’t say” whether he’s in the Mandalorian & Grog.
“There’s been a big movie that focuses on Mando and kids, and I can’t say that’s what happens,” Esposito said. “But I think Moff Gideon has more paths, so I hope we can rejoin that franchise.”
Director John Favreau’s Mandalorian & Grog is an upcoming film that serves as a continuation for the Mandalorians. It stars Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White and Johnny Coyne. The film is scheduled to be released in US theatres on May 22, 2026.
Speaking further about the Star Wars characters, Esposito said: Are you white? Are you black? Is your hair a little frizzy? “And he took over this place for me. There he ultimately gave me the power to control the confusion around me, not just for his physicality, but for his brain… the way he spoke, and everything else I could create in such a powerful way. ”
The first three seasons of The Mandalorian can be streamed on Disney+.
