Aquaman’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was tapped to lead the new Sony TV show Ghost Man.
Abdul-Mateen II is known for playing David Kane/Black Manta in 2018’s Aquaman and the 2023 sequel Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom. He will soon be holding his MCU debut, with a premiere later this year, playing John Creasy in Netflix’s Man On Fire adaptation.
For each diversity, Abdul-Mateen II and his home Eleven10 Production Banner have signed a multi-year first look agreement with Sony Pictures Television, “producing scripted drama series for streaming and cable.”
First up is Ghost Man. This is an adaptation of the 2013 novel by Roger Hobbs of the same name.
What is a Ghost Man?
“The Ghostman specializes in destroying things, but when a failed casino robber gets millions of cash, he stays in front of those who want to die, and cleans up the mess,” the official logline reads.
“We are thrilled to partner with a great team from Katherine, Lauren, Andrew, Eric and Sony Pictures TV,” Abdul-Mateen II said in a statement. “House Eleven 10 is a place where creativity is endless and we couldn’t find a better home to share our vision of pushing boundaries and creating exciting stories.”
Andrew Plotkin of Sony Pictures Tevelision added: “We are delighted to be able to join Yahya and his production team in the Sony family. His dedication to bringing complex and compelling stories to life is perfectly in line with our commitment to providing unique and impactful stories to audiences around the world.”
Filmography for Abdul-Mateen II also includes The Greatest Showman in 2017, the US in 2019, Chicago 7 in 2020s, Candyman in 2021, The Matrix Resurrections in 2021, and Ambulance in 2022. Additionally, he appeared in HBO’s Watchmen Limited series.
The Ghostman premiere date has not yet been announced by Sony Pictures Television.
