Conclave wasn’t the winner of the best picture of surprises like some, but the political thriller took the best adapted script at the 97th Academy Awards. Edward Berger’s fun and fun drama is filled with powerful acting performances, and it’s my first time delight. Thanks to the Conclave 4K release, the film can be said to be equally fun on Rewatch.
“The Conclave follows one of the world’s most secretive and ancient events. They have chosen a new Pope. The church’s most powerful leaders are trapped in the halls of the Vatican and gathered from all over the world. Taking up to carry out this secret process, Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) finds himself at the heart of the plot and discovers secrets that could shake the very foundations of the church. It also stars Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow and Isabella Rossellini, directed by Edward Berger (all quiet on the Western Front),” the official description states.
There were few theatre experiences that were as enjoyable as seeing Conclave. This is a fun, trash-like film despite all the fame of the Pope setting. There’s a backstab, so many gossip (it’s hilarious that Fiennes’ Lawrence is still involved in everything, how it’s fiennes’s behavior on top of it), and there are some really memorable twists (even if the last one was more shocking factors than anything). So I was excited to experience the film from home, but a bit worried that it wasn’t that fun.
Thankfully, when I saw the Conclave 4K release, I was happy to see the film being equally good, even though I knew what was going to happen. This is due to excellent acting performances. When you’re not too intrigued about who wins, you’ll have time to bring A-games to standout scenes and appreciate having a level of craftsmanship that has entered the film (you can really appreciate the 4K set and costume design). Fiennes and Stanley Tucci have great moments, but for me it was John Lithgow who shined the brightest. It’s clear that he has a great time in the role and Lithgow can really take it to the next level when he’s dealing with great scripts (check out my interview where he talks about the “glamorous duality” of the film).
The Conclave 4K release includes two extremely valuable bonus features. The first one is “Sequested: Inside Concrave.” It’s a 17-minute feature that features both the cast and crew discussing the creation of the film. It’s all very interesting, even if you’d like to see more detailed coverage for each individual aspect, from casting to costumes and themes. Much more meat inclusion is a commentary track featuring director Edward Berger. This is very useful, Berger has so much knowledge, sharing stories from filming, and is caught up in an interesting debate about how he used the blue screen. I still got to hear more about movies and more. This is an interesting and diverse commentary track mark.
Conclave 4K Review: Final Verdict
With the release of Conclave 4K, one of the best movies of 2024 can be enjoyed at home with premium details. Filmed beautifully and featuring some fantastic outfits, the film not only looks good, but remains an interesting watch, even if you know who will become the Pope and what the twisted ending is. This is a simple recommendation for those who want to enjoy the film or enjoy an interesting political thriller.
