Coachella descends to “Chaos” before Gates opens
The issue began for car campers who began arriving early in the hopes of securing a major spot in the festival’s on-site camp area. But instead of being greeted by normal excitement and pre-fessional topics, many have found themselves stuck in rambling traffic for hours except for a clear end.
“I’ve heard many reports that Coachella had gotten off to a rough start for a camper today, and some people waited more than 12 hours to reach the campsite,” one user wrote along with a DM for Festival Goper, a social media platform previously known as Twitter, which arrived at 2am and was still waiting at 3pm.
“There’s no Porta Potti in my vision… We were forced to pee on the side of the road,” they added. “Many people who are short on gas, not toilets ().”

Terms such as “Chaos”, “Bonkers”, and “Insane” were used repeatedly by campers who struggled to understand long delays.
One user said, “Anyone in charge of planning and logistics should be fired and forced to give us all personal apology. I’m kidding, but that’s not.”
Another asked, “This should be zero the worst day in history, right?”

Coachella participants are seeking a refund
The official Coachella subreddit sparked heated debate with posts where attendees wanted partial or full refunds.
“We waited nine hours to enter this festival. There’s no bathroom or food. We probably won’t be coming back,” they wrote.
Others reflected similar frustration, saying, “This is my fifth Coachella and I’ve never seen such a scary organization. I’ve just crossed a security check for hours here, literally no one has been moving.”
Even people who aren’t involved in Coachella but just live in their hometown complain. “We spent an hour in traffic trying to drop her off at the CDA, the place where my daughter goes to school,” one parent said. “Do something. It’s scary not being able to go to school.”

On its website, Coachella promotes car camping as “the most popular overnight option,” giving guests the opportunity to “build an oasis” for themselves and their crew. For weekend one, car camp passes start at $160, but many campers now question whether the experience is worth the hype.
As of now, Coachella has not announced an official response to the rising wave of complaints, but Officer David Torres said that the surge in visitors has led to an increase in enforcement efforts not only across the festival but across the valley.
“We have more officers on the roads, but we are more hyper-aware in search of violations, so that everyone can safely participate in the festival,” he told KESQ News. “We can see people are so excited about the festival, so sometimes they may want to speed up, distract or celebrate early.”
