Is the USS Calister sequel in Black Mirror something like a Jedi return?
When USS Callister aired in the fourth season of the show, this episode led another famous sci-fi series for inspiration. This time, the USS Calister sequel will feel like an action-adventure film.
“We definitely leaned towards the outdated atmosphere of Star Trek for the first one.
Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker acknowledged the episode’s Star Trek roots and explained how the sequel channels the well-known Star Wars sequel.
“The first one is obviously a riff in Star Trek, and this is a slight riff in Star Wars,” Brooker said. “We kept saying, ‘What is specific to our premises?’ It’s strange because for them they forget that it’s real.
USS Callister was the first episode of Black Mirror Season 4, which premiered in December 2017. Jesse Premons starred as Robert Daly, a programmer working for Callister Inc., which is behind the popular game Infinity. Frustrated with how his colleagues treat him, Robert creates a Star Trek-esque video game with clones of his colleagues. In the game, Robert is the captain and dictator of USS Calister. When Nanette Cole (Kristin Milioti) arrives at the game, she works with the crew to stop Robert’s terror reign.
Miliotti, Jimmy Simpson and Billy Magnussen are back in the sequel. The details of a particular plot are kept under the wrap.
Netflix’s Black Mirror Season 7 Stream will be streamed on April 10th.
