Ben Stiller on Severance Season 2 Ending: ‘People Will Kill Us’ if We Do Another Cliffhanger

The final episode of Severance Season 2 can now be streamed on Apple TV+. Although no premier dates have been set yet, it was announced earlier today that the show has officially been renewed for the third season.

Speaking to Variety, Stiller said, “In the brief moment we thought of it, Mark plays another cliffhanger between Helly and Gemma.”

However, not long after entertaining the idea, Stiller and other creative times realized that after Severance Season 1 ended with a major cliffhanger, they were unable to do it to fans again.

“People will kill us,” he commented. “So we wanted him to make a choice and set up a dystopian conflict.”

The gap between retirement season 1 and season 2 was long. The first season premiered in February 2022, and the second season did not come until January 2025. That means fans of the show had to wait nearly three years to find out what would happen next.

In retirement season 2, Mark S decides to stay with Helly inside Lemon Hall, rather than chasing Gemma into the outside world, but fans won’t have to wait long to see Season 3 explore “dystopian conflict” as it explores “dystopian conflict.”

“We hope there will be no massive strikes, pandemics or cracks on the top of the planet that will slow us down,” Erickson said. “Except that, I hope I get this a little sooner, but retirement has always been a long-time show.
