Coyote vs. Acme may eventually see the light of day, but DC fans shouldn’t get their hope Batgirl release.
On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, it was reported that Warner Bros. could ultimately sell Coyote vs. ACME distribution rights to Ketchup Entertainment. Warner Bros. previously decided to shelve the already completed film with a $30 million tax amortization.
Coyote vs. Acme wasn’t the first time Warner Bros. has made such a controversial move. In 2022, DC Films and Warner Bros. Discovery announced that they no longer have plans to release Batgirl. Batgirl would have gone directly to HBO Max, starring Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon and Brendan Fraser as Firefly.
What is the latest update to the unreleased Batgirl movie from Warner Bros Discovery?
According to Jeff Sneider’s The Insneider, Batgirl may not be released yet. Sneider said, “Unfortunately, my sources don’t expect that superhero movie to see the light of day.”
It is important to note that Batgirl was not completely finished at this time, as the film is still in the post-production phase and requires some scenes to be filmed. There were also reports of Batgirl test screenings that received negative reactions, which may have contributed to the Warner Bros Discovery decision.
Nevertheless, the decision not to release Batgirl, directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, has angered many fans. Coyote vs. Acme is potentially on the release of 2026 (the contract between Ketchup Entertainment and Warner Bros. has not yet been set for stone).
In addition to Grace and Fraser, the Batgirl cast includes James Gordon’s JK Simmons, Jacob Sipio as Anthony Blessi and Ivory Aquino as Alicia Yoh. Michael Keaton was also to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, but it was expected that more villain Killer Moss would appear.
