A heartbreaking new details emerged amid the tragic passage of Miller Gardner, the 14-year-old son of a former New York Yankees outfielder Brett GardnerHe passed away last week while on a family holiday in Costa Rica.
Miller’s body was found Friday in a hotel room at Manuel Antonio, the destination of a well-known resort along Costa Rica’s Pacific coast.
As the investigation continues, police are considering two possible causes of death in connection with the death of Brett Gardner’s son.

According to the Costa Rica Judicial Investigation Police (OIJ), several members of the Miller and Gardner family fell ill from food poisoning during their stay at Arena del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort, a luxury hotel in Manuel Antonio.
“The whole family got sick and probably fell from food poisoning from what they ate,” OIJ confirmed to CNN on Tuesday.
The exact cause of Miller’s death is still under investigation, but early findings suggest that the teen may have died of asphyxiation, perhaps as a result of complications caused by a severe illness.
An OIJ official told NBC News on Monday. The final results of the autopsy and toxicology report are still pending.

The devastating news was first shared Sunday in a joint statement by Brett and Jessica Gardner via New York Yankees X, a social media platform previously known as Twitter.
“A heartfelt, we are saddened to announce the death of our youngest son, Miller,” the couple wrote. “He was 14 and left us as soon as he got sick with some other family members on vacation.”

They added that while they were left with “so many questions and few answers,” their son “died peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st.”
Miller, described by his parents as a vibrant, passionate young teenager, had a passion for life and an unwavering love for sports and the outdoors. “Miller is our beloved son and brother, and we still can’t understand our lives without his infectious smile. He loved soccer, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends,” they said. “He lived his life to the fullest every day.”
The couple who married in 2007 and have another child said they were leaning against their faith and family to endure what they called “unthinkable losses.”
“Respect our privacy wishes as we are looking for healing and healing,” they concluded.
