Angel Reese Recalls Beating Caitlin Clark During NCAA Tournament Two Years Ago: 'Changed My Life Forever'

In a previous Twitter post on X, Angel Reese shared a statement, reflecting on the moment she, LSU Tigers and Kim Mulkey were defeated Kate Rinklerk In 2023, the Iowa Hawkeyes won the NCAA Division I Tournament.

In X, she acknowledged the moment and admitted that being a winner had a huge impact on her life.

In that game, Lease played 29 minutes, scoring 15 points and securing 10 rebounds. She also had five assists, three steels and one block.

Of course, the national title helped bring more attention to Lease. However, her post-match celebration led her to another stratosphere.

When the clock got caught up in the fourth quarter, the camera caught Reese, who was holding the famous “You Can’t See Me” celebration of John Cena’s famous “You Can’t See Me” with Clark’s face.

Many have blown up Louisiana basketball players for “taunting” her opponents after securing the victory. The tense interactions and fierce competition between the two players also created a new rivalry that will be remembered over the years.

After LSU’s victory over Clark and the Hawkeyes, Reese defended herself against allegations that she had demonstrated “sportsman-like” behavior.

During her response she was pointing to Clark. Clark made the same gesture to another team during the previous match.

“All year, I was criticised for who I was,” she said. CBS News. “I don’t fit the story. I don’t fit the box I want to be. I’m too hood. I’m too ghetto.

“So this is for girls who look like me and I’m going to talk about what they believe,” Reese continued. “It’s not about you, and that’s what I did tonight. It was bigger than me tonight.”

Reese added: “And Twitter gets mad every time. And I’m happy. This year, she helped her grow women’s basketball. I look forward to celebrating and the next season.”

Reese revealed the public’s perception of his relationship with Clark. According to her, trash talk is not “personal.” It’s part of the game.

“I don’t think people realize it’s not personal,” the LSU star said. “Me and Caitlyn Clark don’t hate each other. I want everyone to understand that. It’s just a competitive game and I want people to recognize it.”

Reese explained that when she was in court she was uninterested in being friendly.

“I have a lot of friends on the court who talks outside the game, but once we get between those lines, we’re not friends. We’re not peers,” she said. “I’m going to tell you the trash. I’m going to do whatever it takes to get the whole game in my head, but after the game we can kick it. I don’t think people really recognize it.

Since winning the national title in 2023, Lease has secured many lucrative deals with popular companies and brands such as Reebok, Beat, Dore, Lease and McDonald’s.

In January 2025, the fast food giant announced a special partnership with the Chicago Sky Rookie, signing the platter of the bacon quarter pound with a female athlete for their first meal.

Of course, Reese’s collaboration with Golden Arches is not the first time she has teamed up with a global franchise. In 2020, she was named a national McDonald player and represented St. Francis, a high school in Baltimore.
