How things ended in the final season 1 of season 1, Joel and Ellie grew up during the five-year jump between the seasons. While speaking at a press conference hosted by Variety, Pascal recalled the first day she filmed Season 2 with Bella Ramsey.
“I feel it was a beautiful set up by Craig (Mazine) and Neil (Drackman). The first thing we filmed was that we were in an intimate environment with you, me and me,” Pascal said. “There is a very painful distance between the two of them and the scene playing, but we still had to fuck on set, laugh and stuff, and that was incredibly comforting.

Pascal talked about coming back to play Joel due to the emotional weight that portrays the character.
“I was grateful that my way of thinking was back,” Pascal said. “But at the same time, this experience is more than any other experience I’ve had, and it’s hard to separate what the characters are going through and how that feels in a less healthy way. And I feel their pain.”
Pascal laughed, adding, “I think I was in an unhealthy way of thinking.”
Our final season 2 will premiere on HBO on April 13th and stream on Max.
