Netflix’s number one shines the spotlight every week on what’s currently the most popular streaming service in the world. Sometimes it becomes a movie. Sometimes it will become a TV show. Whatever it is, many people are clearly looking at it, so we try to understand why with a quick review. Today we are watching Electrical conditionIt’s not on the charts, but…it’s not yet.
“Mr. Peanuts signed a surrender treaty on the White House lawn today with President Clinton and Centre CEO Ethan Skate. In Detroit, Kidlock threw a party celebrating the defeat of the Robot Equality Coalition.”
That’s about 5 minutes’ quote Electrical conditionthe latest big Netflix original movie. With the cast led by Joe and Anthony Russo and Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt, it certainly does. It’s the strangest A film produced on this scale. This confused science fiction adventure will cost hundreds of millions of dollars, filled with many big ideas, ending with the message that virtual reality is bad and connecting with others is good. (It’s certainly bold and brave.)
Electrical condition Based on the book by Simon Stålenhag. Looking at the book images, you can see the visual aesthetics of the film and where the most exciting ideas came from. In the 1994 film’s alternative universe, robot exploitation over the past few decades led to an uprising abandoned by humanity after giving humanity an upgrade with the remotely controlled Drone Warriors. Currently, robots are isolated within the “exclusion zone” and most of humanity choose to connect to their own virtual reality world. This is a young Michelle (Brown) who is not a fan and chats with a classmate who says, “I have the conditions for living in real life.”
Michelle is an orphan thanks to a car accident that allegedly killed her parents and the genius younger brother. However, when the robot could carry the soul of the aforementioned brother, she begins her quest to see if he is actually still alive somewhere. Along the way, she recruits Keats (Platt) and helps her with that quest. (For example, Mr. Peanuts is played by Woody Harrelson. Why is it not good?))
Notes on the Keats character: Thanks to Han Solo, there is the perception that he is a bad boy for smugglers in simplicity. (I mean, Hella Hot.) At the very least, Keats deny that rope perhaps more accurately by protecting the reality of what this guy is like.

That’s great though Electrical condition Avoid being too many obvious narrative cliches. There are so many impossible questions generated in this film. for example…
- Why does Anthony Mackey cast as the voice of Keats’ robot BFF, but that modulates his voice beyond the point that he can even say that Mackey is talking? (You can probably hear a bit Mackie’s inflection is there… perhaps. )
- What’s set in 1994 adds to the story beyond visual talent, Cindy Crawford’s bibliography, and Millie Bobby Brown in Denim Over Oars? (One strap is not buckled course. )
- How did Kid Rock become a rap rock star on this timeline than he did to our reality a few years ago? (The darkest timeline really.)
In Electrical conditionCredits, it’s more original and consistent than Zack Snyder Rebel Moon It’s a movie, but if you’ve seen those movies, you know what a weak tribute it is. Perhaps the biggest crime against the film is that Stanley Tucci doesn’t do anything interesting with playing the evil mastermind. It also feels like most of its famous cast is useless. At least most of them play a voice-only role. It’s sad to think that talent like Colman Domingo has to spend a fair amount of time on projects like this.
At the time of writing, Electrical condition It’s not at the top of the Netflix charts yet, but the movie has only been out for a few hours. The real reason why I’m jumping over the gun a bit here is that that’s right The type of film that was made to be discussed as part of the number one in the Netflix series. This is not to say that what’s popular on Netflix is inherently bad. The current number one TV program is pubertya very likely candidate for the Emmys this year, but a brilliantly crafted British series. But there is a certain confusion in the chaos that allows for the creation of such films in the world, among the most popular streamers.
A few years ago I heard there was an A-list movie star. because That lack of data. For them, being able to make a film without worrying about the possibility of a box office failure was a huge attraction. Avoiding the stigma of being a flop was a good thing for the chances of success in the play.
Netflix has become a safe space for this kind of big messy swing. Requirements Hunter You can still be the current Number one on Netflix. So Electrical condition It’s premiered in the right place. The only question is whether it will fulfill its fate as a chart topper or whether it will lose this weekend to the final gasp of Sony’s Marvel Universe series.
If the latter happened… Mr. Peanuts cried.
Electrical condition It’s currently streaming on Netflix.
