In recent years, films and television shows have become more important than ever, as licensing agreements and CEO whims keep films and television shows being constantly drawn from streaming services and digital platforms. However, hundreds of DVDs created by Warner Bros Home Entertainment between 2006 and 2008 could be affected by “disc rot.” As reported on the film news and review site Joblo.
Disc rot is when the DVD suddenly stops working much faster than 30-100 years, which should last when properly cared for when it is properly cared for as a result of collapse between the protective lacquer and the reflective layer. In his report, Joblo Editor Chief Chris Bumbray revealed that he recently discovered that films and television shows from the collection published by Warner Bros. in the mid-2000s had succumbed to the issue.
In a statement, the company’s home video division acknowledged the issue and said it had already worked with customers to replace affected disks.
Warner Bros. added: “If possible, defective discs have been replaced with the same title, but consumers are being offered exchanges for value titles because some of the affected titles are no longer printed or rights expired.
Consumers of affected products can contact the customer support team at [email protected]. ”

The DVD lot that plagues the Warner Bros title is not a new issue. As The Verge points out, physical media enthusiasts discuss the issue on forums such as the DVD Talk and the Home Theater forum, which date back at least to 2005.
The idealistic crusaders of YouTuber Fool also posted a lengthy video on the issue in 2021. He reported that disc rot applied to DVDs from long windows from 2006-2009 would be applied to DVDs.
Perhaps YouTuber Retroblast bested it in a 2024 video, saying, “It all goes bad. They tie it up like milk.”
