The ceiling of a cinema in Wenatchee, Washington, collapsed during screening this week Captain America: A brave new world.
The freak incident occurred at Wenatchee’s Liberty Cinema on Tuesday night, when two film fans caught the 8pm screening of the film. Thankfully, both participants were fine without reported injuries.
However, photos and videos shared by the Wenatchee Valley Fire Station show how scary the collapse was when the first three rows of tile rapse were destroyed by tile rubs, wooden beams and insulation disruptions. Interestingly, the film itself is still playing in the background of the video (as an Instagram commenter said, “The film has to continue!”).
According to an interview with Chief Cam Phillips of Wenatchee Valley Fire Vatarion, movie fans (couples) “hear pop and cracking,” one of them stood up to investigate the source of the sound.
Looking up at the ceiling in front of the screen, the individual clearly realized what was going to happen and told his girlfriend, “Run!” She had no time to respond, and she instantly found herself covered in debris.
The collapse is reportedly “unexpected,” with both the theatre and first responders commenting on how lucky they were to have attended and that the theatres weren’t even crowded at the time.
Captain America: A brave new world It premiered in February and has already earned nearly $300 million at the box office, making it the third highest gross movie ever.
