Ariana Grande and Cynthia Eribo performed musical medleys to open the 2025 Oscars. evil, The Wizard of Ozand With.
To open up the performance, Grande took to the stage for a passionate performance, “Somewhere in the Rainbow.” The Wizard of Oz. She then handed out the stage to Eribo, who had fascinated while singing “Home” from the 1978 musical. With. To close it, Grande returned to “ignoring gravity.”
It’s worth noting that none of the songs are evil I qualified for the best original song category. This is by the Academy’s definition of original songs, and states that it must be “specially written for the film.” The filmmakers chose to keep the soundtrack faithful to the 2003 musical.
However, Jon M. Chu’s musical adaptation received a total of 10 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress in Eribo and Best Supporting Actress in Grande. Additionally, composers John Powell and Stephen Schwartz nodded for the best original score.
